This is a new nine-week class designed for the young guitarist (we also need a few bassists) to play with other like-minded musicians in a group class. We will focus on classic, as well as new rock music and the techniques involved for the instrumentalist. Both lead and rhythm parts will be studied when possible. Tuning down, Drop D tuning, power chords, playing through an amp, pentatonic scales, lead playing, and playing in a group will be explored. Tablature will be provided and participants are expected to be familiar with music basics. This is an intermediate class (not for beginners) and prior completion of 6 months to a year of private lessons is recommended. Age range: 11-14 yrs. Class size: minimum 5, maximum 8. $160 for nine weeks (nine lessons). Contact Greg: 650-858-0667 or greg.guitar@sbcglobal.net
About the instructor: Greg has been teaching rock 'n roll guitar styles at Gryphon for almost 20 years, and specializes in younger players. Along with the fundamentals of classic rock, Greg keeps up with contemporary guitar styles and has a cool, easy-going manner that puts students at ease. |

"Starting to Play" is fundamental instruction for virtually any style of guitar playing, while other classes take off from there. "Folk Standards," "Already Picking Some," and "Folk Favorites" are logical choices for those who know enough chords and basic techniques to make "Starting to Play" redundant. All classes are a nine-week series. For more information, call Carol or go to: www.carolmccomb.com. Gryphon has loaner guitars available for "Starting to Play" only. Call Gryphon for details. |
